Reiki, a Powerful Tool for Mind, Body and Spirit

By Mona Khalaf

The interest in alternative medicine is growing rapidly today. Among the huge number of healing methods available, Reiki has become very popular around the world, especially since science has verified the existence of the universal life energy that Reiki is based on. Reiki is a powerful holistic healing system; it heals on all levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

So what is Reiki? Reiki is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy. It is a very simple method that uses universal life energy, the energy which permeates our entire universe and all living things. This universal life energy is called qi or chi in China, prana in India, and ki in Japan and this is where the Reiki name derives. It circulates throughout the body and in an energy field surrounding the body. This energy field, long been known to healers and mystics, is now verified by scientists. Recent scientific experiments have verified the existence of this life force energy. Scientists have proven that everything in the universe, at a sub-atomic level, is made up of energy. Health is the harmonious flow of life energy, while imbalances in this flow, due to unhealthy habits or negative emotions lead to illness. So this subtle energy is responsible for the processes in our body on all levels: physical, emotional and mental. Reiki is channeled through the hands of the practitioner into the body of the receiver and balances the energy flow in the body.

Reiki is a holistic healing system, i.e. it addresses the whole person: the physical, mental, emotional and the spiritual levels. The body is not made up of parts to be fixed, but an amazing and complex web of energy, and in order to truly return to health, all the levels of our being must be addressed.

Reiki works on four different levels:

The physical level: Reiki strengthens the immune system. It helps to relive pai. It balances and harmonizes the function of glands and organs. It heals by opening the blocked energy channels, the meridians, and balances the chakras. With continuous practice, good health and well-being is maintained.

The emotional level: Reiki reduces stress and improves relaxation; this in turn strengthens the immune system and maintains health. Reiki clears energy blockages and suppressed emotions.

The mental level: Reiki enables the person to become more positive and reach a different outlook on life. You feel more empowered and find it easier to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

The spiritual level: Reiki enables you to feel more connected to your higher self. It aids meditation, increases intuition and provides limitless benefits of spiritual growth.

Reiki is so simple yet so powerful, and this is what makes it a unique healing system that anyone can learn, because it does not require any previous experience or special ability. The Benefits of Reiki are infinite. It enables you to take an active part in your own wellness, and increases your growth on all levels.

5 Great Tips to Handle Stress

By Mona Khalaf

Stress has always been a part of our lives. In this hectic time, people lead an increasingly stressful life. Experts state that a little stress can be good as it keeps you focused and ready to move forward, and is sometimes vital for achieving optimum performance. However, medical research has determined that prolonged stress is very bad for the body, and can block the body's natural ability to repair, regenerate and protect itself. Over 90% of disease is caused by stress. Stress is both a physical and psychological response. It can lead to chronic disease, obesity, insomnia, deteriorating relationships, depression, and more.

Stress is such a powerful and harmful force that it is vital that you learn effective stress management techniques to live a successful, happy, and healthy life. We must remember that we will always come across inevitable factors that cause pressure and anxiety on us. What we do not know is that it is not really the problems that are difficult to deal with, but our attitude towards them. So basically, the cause of stress is your attitude toward these things. What, then, is an effective way to deal with stressors?

Below are 5 great tips to handle stress.

1. Identify what makes you stressful and uneasy. Making a list of your stressful experiences is useful. Immediately deal with the issues that you can change, for instance waking up earlier for work in the morning, not leaving things till the last minute, and delegating tasks in case you are taking responsibility for everything. Forget about the issues that you cannot influence like being stuck in a traffic jam or not getting into the elevator because there is no room for you.

2. Calm down. A few minutes break would do you good. Wash your face, breath slowly and deeply, and notice if there is tension in any part of your body and release it. You can also listen to relaxing music, or call a friend. Releasing your inner feelings to a friend is healthy option.

3. It will pass and it will be over before you know it. Remind yourself that the stressful event will end sooner or later can make you see the positive sides of things. At the same time, calm down your emotions and think of what is the best thing to do rather than take your energy away from what needs to be done.

4. Know yourself. Ask yourself: What triggers your anxiety? If for example it is your job, then maybe it’s time for you to reconsider whether it would be best to find a less stressful job. You can also make your job more tolerable by allowing yourself to get that needed vacation or leave.

5. Learn to use your relaxation reaction. Just as we all have within us the stress reaction, we also have a relaxation reaction, and we should use that on a regular basis. It requires two steps: A Repetition, i.e. repeating a word, a sound, an expression, or a movement. Secondly, ignoring thoughts that come to one’s mind while you're doing the repetition, and coming back to the repetition. This method should be used daily for a few minutes. The words to choose can be the sound Om, love, calm, peace, etc. You can also do a repetitive exercise, for instance yoga, jogging, Reiki. When you incorporate this into your everyday life, you become calmer and better able to handle the stressors. Practice makes perfect and the more you practice relax your mind, the easier it gets.

The true causes of stress are not the problems or negative experiences that you encounter in your life; but your attitude toward them. So, the trick is to change your attitude and to develop a relaxed state, because you cannot be stressed and relaxed at the same time. It is important to understand that what we focus on, we energize. The more you continue to think about the factors that cause your stress, the more energy you give it. So it is vital to let go and focus on relaxation instead. Consequently, you're less likely to be upset by a stressor, and thus less likely to have its harmful effect occur. Eventually, it is your choice. You could either continue to react in the same stressful way, or you could choose to improve your life by changing your attitude and becoming relaxed. There’s no other way around it.

How to Bring Out your Positive Attitude

By Mona Khalaf

We always encounter problems in our lives, and most of the time, we become discouraged by how difficult the problems we face are. But what we don't know is that it's not really the problems that are difficult to deal with but our attitude towards them. Yes, they may be tough at times and may take a lot of time to solve, but as long as we view them as obstacles that will obstruct our way towards our goal, we can never really arrive at the right solution.

As long as you have the right attitude of looking at things and how they have to be done, you can achieve things that may seem impossible to happen...

So how do you bring out the Positive Person in You? When faced with problems, you may tend to see the glass half-empty instead of half full. The trick is to see these problems as challenges… as something to move us forward in life. Not all roads to success are smooth, often, there are bumps and humps. Now how can you still see the good things in everything… even if you are pessimistic all the time?

1. Keep your mind focused on important things. Set goals and priorities. Visualize practicing your actions and the results you expect from them. Develop an effective strategy for dealing with problems. Concentrate on things that need to be taken seriously; but at the same time, take time to relax and enjoy.

2. Keep a list of your goals and actions. Familiarize yourself with things you want to accomplish and with the ways you must undertake to complete them. When you are aware of these things, your body will immediately carry out the actions you need to execute in making these things happen.

3. Be detached from the outcome. There will be times in our lives when some things don't turn out according to what we want them to be. Nevertheless face them, don't be discouraged if you don't get what you want. Don't become too attached to the probable outcome, but just do your best in everything. Remember the saying: “problems are opportunities in disguise”.

4. Be realistic. Make sure that your goals are specific. Big goals can be chunked down into small specific steps; each step will bring you closer to your goal. Success might not be gained overnight… but it can be gained no matter what. Believe and have faith.

5. Associate mostly with positive people. In classrooms, work places, or anywhere you go where there are groups of people, look for optimistic ones. Associate and discuss matters with them. They can help you build self-confidence and self-esteem.

6. Ask questions and seek knowledge. Asking or seeking guidance can bring no harm. It does not imply ignorance; rather it is associated with seeking more information and understanding matters clearly. Remember with more knowledge, there is also more power.

7. Count your blessings. Focus on what you have rather than worrying about what you don’t have. Positive outcomes appear when we know we are abundant of this life’s blessings. So be thankful and appreciative of all the blessings that you have in your life now, maintaining this attitude will bring more abundance your way.

8. Say goodbye to your worries. At the end of everyday, before going to sleep, it is important not to dwell on bad experiences and unhappy moments that had happened during the day. Let them go, by visualizing these experiences again but this time change the scenes so that the outcome is now positive and satisfactory, and problems are resolved, feel the happiness and satisfaction as if this outcome has already manifested, and go to sleep with this positive attitude. As a new day unfolds, new hope arises, you will be surprised how your life will begin to improve and reflect your attitude. Keep believing.

Life will always have ups and downs. See the big picture, look beyond the problem. A positive person will not dwell on a difficult situation and be discouraged by it, but will believe that he can and he should surpass it in order to reach his goals. With a positive attitude, he never accepts defeat. A positive attitude is one of the most valuables assets you can have in life, it can help you achieve things that may seem impossible to happen.
